Issue
Service provider underpricing labor due to lack of confidence in perceived value; charged $10K initially, doubled to $20K after scope expansion, but still uncertain if pricing adequately reflects problem-solving impact.
Cost
unstated
Recommendation
Assess the magnitude of business problem being solved for client; price based on perceived value and problem size rather than cost-to-deliver; charge rates commensurate with value delivered, not underestimate worth

Body

2 years ago I did video work for a client. At the time it was my biggest contract. A month ago they emailed me and asked me to do another project for them. I quoted them 10k, they came back and asked me to broaden the scope of the work and the quote doubled to 20k. At first I was like, that is way to much. But when I look at it, I could probably charge them more. I have done a lot of work on myself and am getting better at seeing the value I offer. I am excited for the project to begin. It has taken a lot of personal growth to get here. I just wanted to share this. I am really excited.

Hell yeah brother. Charge your worth, always. (Unless it is work you should do out of the good of your heart and this does exist too)

One of the best pieces of advice I was given was, before naming your price, assess how big of a problem you are solving for them. If you are solving a million dollar problem , you would not think it’s too high to charge in the hundreds of thousands. Because you know you are solving something huge for them. Do not leave money on the table, especially money that you deserve. Perceived value > actual value that’s how you make profit, obviously don’t scam people but it’s not scam if it’s a price they are more than willing to pay. I.e millions of people pay thousands of dollars for designer shoes that cost less than a hundred to make, why? Perceived value. Lingering thoughts of “that’s too much” is because you know you can get the job done easier, but that’s not because what you do is easy but because you’ve become so skilled that it now feels easy. What you consider expensive many people consider cheap, and the latter should be your target customer.

I have always been shy about billing my customers. Literally today I had a meeting with my biggest client and some folks from a 3rd company. My client was joking to them that they never want to end my contract, because I help them so much and yet I charge them "basically nothing". Yeah. I was laughing along but I felt a bit stupid as well. Now I need to find the courage to just charge them more 😅 Congrats on your deal! Let us make the money we deserve.
